“Don’t you know yet?
It is your light that lights the world.”
Rumi (1207-1273) Sufi poet
Is there still such a thing as a “pep talk?” Do coaches still give them to their teams before a game? Sounds like Rumi is giving one to the world. He even sounds like a coach, a bit frustrated: “When are you guys going to get with the program?!”
It’s a challenge, I think for all of us, whether talking to ourselves or to our kids, to strike the right balance between “You’re always fabulous and can do anything you want” risking arrogance and entitlement, and — “You’re just like everyone else, really just an average person” risking mediocrity and underachievement?
Maybe a balance is the key. However in this pep talk from Rumi, he doesn’t hold back and you know which risk he prefers: “Your light lights the world!” Maybe that’s because when you really understand and accept this idea, humility has already become a part of it.
This week be aware of your light – lighting the world.
