“Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it’s time to pause and reflect.”

Mark Twain (1835-1910) American writer and humorist

“There is a great need for the introduction of new values in our society, where bigger is not necessarily better, where slower can be faster, and where less can be more.”

Gaylord Nelson (1916-2005) American politician and environmentalist

Many of us were taught to be obedient and do what we were told, and have carried that tendency into adult life ‒ and it may have served us well enough. No more. Now I believe the opposite is true. In general, disobedience is the best response (not talking about parenting/child rearing) or at least serious questioning of authority ‒ especially any demands or encouragements from officialdom in any of its many forms.

In this week’s moments of reverie ‒ I hope you have many ‒ consider whom you:

Obey (You do what they want) because they want it, maybe you also want it;

Disobey (You don’t do what they want) or you question their authority over you.
